The Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) has partnered with Middlesex University Dubai to support in mentoring and coaching the University’s Moot team. To prepare students, the University in collaboration with EMAC, will host a pre-moot event at its Knowledge Park campus on 11 March.

The pre-moot event aims to provide support and enhance the mooting and advocacy skills of those teams from the United Arab Emirates participating in the XXIV Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, in Vienna from 6 to 13 April. The arbitration challenge is based on the main moot and is designed to prepare students for the Vienna pleadings.

According to Mr. Majid Obaid bin Bashir, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of EMAC, partnering with Middlesex University Dubai to work with the University’s team for the XXIV Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot provided an opportunity to share real world experience with the potential arbitration leaders of tomorrow.

“We are proud to be collaborating with Middlesex University Dubai to deliver this year’s pre-moot event,” said Mr. bin Bashir. “At EMAC, we are committed to giving back to the region’s legal sector, through mentoring the arbitrators of tomorrow we are able to share our knowledge to ensure the continued growth and success of the sector now and in the future.”

For Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes, Director, Middlesex University Dubai, the partnership with EMAC ensures law students have access to the experience of the region’s leading industry professionals.

“Middlesex University Dubai is committed to providing the highest quality programs to prepare the legal professionals of tomorrow,” said Dr. Fernandes. “Our partnership with EMAC gives our law students unparalleled access to some of the region’s leading arbitrators, giving them the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s legal environment.”
