MDX Students win Software Trade Show

  • Tuesday, 29 May 2012

A group of third year IT students from Middlesex University Dubai beat a tough field of 17 entrants from across the UAE to win the annual UOWD Software Trade Show. The Software Trade Show is now in its sixth year, and features a range of different IT projects showcased by final year students from different universities.

Participating in the Show for the very first time, Middlesex University Dubai presented an innovative Table Top interface, which was used to demonstrate a “touch and feel” trivia game for children developed by a group of IT students: David Godsway, Ibrahim Adefila, Uwemedimo Ndem and Safwan Syed. The students were mentored by their lecturers, Engie Bashir and Jaspreet Singh, in preparation for the event, and they received 8 week internships as Software Developers for winning first place.

Ms Bashir commented: “This is an outstanding achievement and win for our students, and demonstrates the increasing interest in new technologies which go beyond the traditional computer interface. At Middlesex we emphasise novel interactive technologies in our IT degrees, which give students an edge in emerging IT industries.” Ms Bashir built the Table Top for use in a third year IT course which requires students to develop interactive software, including games.
