Guest lecture for final year students of the Education programme

Haruka Marufuji presented a lecture to the Year 3 Education students on the importance of cultural intelligence for leaders.The lecture focused on definitions of culture and applicability to business and leadership. Haruka gave examples of marketing blunders which didn’t consider the impact of culture ( e.g. Toyota Prado launch in China) and demonstrated how CQ ( cultural intelligence) can be learned and is essential for effective leadership.
Haruka is a DBA student at Manchester University (UK). Her research focus is on Cross-cultural Leadership and Feminine Style Leadership. She has extensive experience in international marketing and business development. Her previous employers include Hinduja Bank (Switzerland), Philip Morris International, Sony Corporation and Viacom.
Her lecture was informative, thought provoking and extremely well received.
