MDX Dubai CEI department hosts the final Student Innovation Awards-BCS ICT 2017

On Thursday, October 12th 2017The Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) team and students hosted the final round of a national level (inter-university) App competition with the first two rounds of the competition completed during May – September, 2017. The event was held under the patronage of his highness, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Culture and Development (as part of the BCS ICT Conference 2017) and sponsored by the British Computer Society – Middle East Section. The objective of this event was to provide students a unique platform where they use technology to showcase their creativity and enhance their interest in the areas of Mobility, Security, Communication, Collaboration, Environment and Wellness for the Future Cities.

The event started with a welcome speech by Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Director of Middlesex University of Dubai and followed by the inspiring talk of Eng. Adel Salem Alkaff Al Hashmi, BCS Chairman. MS Manal Al Ansari, Innovation Manager at Emirates NBD Group IT was the distinguished key note speaker of the day. The finalists presented their projects to an esteemed panel of judges, including Dr. Mohamed Fareq Malik, Mr. Amol Kadam, Ms. Manal Al Ansari, Mr. Abdul Husein  and Mr. Abdul Saleem.

At the end of the day’s proceedings, Osama Khan and Muhammad Rasly from University of Bolton, RAK won first prize; Muhammad Azeem and Talah Shaikh from Heriot-Watt University received second prize and Otobong Friday and Judhi Prasetyo from Middlesex University of Dubai received third prize. The top 10 teams, four them from Middlesex University, will exhibit there posters at the BCS ICT 2017 conference which will be held on October 29th, 2017 at the Mangrove Anantara, four teams were from Middlesex University Dubai.

The event was a huge success and was culmination of months of efforts of CIE team members – Engie Bashir and Pallavi Ranjan, supported by a team of volunteers of the MDX Computing Society and lead by the head of CEI department Dr. Fehmida Hussain.

The students of the Accounting and Finance Department celebrated the success of the second edition of the Financial Modeling Club (FMC2.0) on 6 March 2024. Led by students, this year’s FMC 2.0 featured four upskilling workshops and two competitions. A total of fifty-five students secured the Foundations Certificate in Financial Modeling, offered by our academic partner, FMI. Special congratulations to Chirag Kherajani for earning the Financial Modeling Institute scholarship for Advanced Financial Modeling certification.
