Dr Cedwyn Fernandes awarded the title of Pro Vice-Chancellor

Middlesex University Dubai is delighted to announce that our Director, Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, has been awarded the title of Pro Vice-Chancellor.

Upon conferring the title of Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Blackman (Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University) stated “Since I arrived at Middlesex I’ve been deeply impressed by Cedwyn’s leadership of our Dubai campus and his contribution to Middlesex University. The campus goes from strength to strength. The title of Pro Vice-Chancellor is in recognition of Cedwyn’s distinguished career with the University and recognises his key leadership role at Middlesex and the eminence that he rightly has in the region”.

Chancellor Dame Janet Ritterman congratulating Dr. Cedwyn on his appointment as Pro-Vice Chancellor said “This is a very timely recognition of all that you have already brought about in your leadership of the Dubai campus.  I hope that this acknowledgement of your success brings you as much pleasure as it does to those of us who know you and admire your commitment and your many achievements”.

Professor Andrea D’Laska, Deputy Vice Chancellor, said “In my role as the person in-charge of overseas campuses I work with Cedwyn and his colleagues. Cedwyn has led Middlesex University Dubai to outstanding success and to becoming the University of choice in the region”.

Thanking the Vice Chancellor for this recognition, Dr Cedwyn said “This is a recognition of the efforts of the staff of Middlesex University Dubai without whom this would not be possible. The key to the success of the University is that it provides an outstanding student experience which is made possible by the dedication of our staff. I am grateful to all our students and Alumni who are our best ambassadors and have made Middlesex proud”.

Dr Cedwyn Fernandes is the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai. He has had over a decade of experience in Higher Education in the UAE and has been responsible for setting up innovative programmes across universities. In 2012, as the MBA Programme Leader at Middlesex University Dubai, he was responsible for the MBA being ranked #1 in Dubai by Forbes Middle East. Cedwyn also has hands on experience in the corporate world as an economist with Saudi Arabian Airlines and was in charge of international project investments. Cedwyn has a Ph.D in Economics and his analysis on issues impacting the UAE and the region are regularly published in the media. Cedwyn’s research interests are focused in the areas of macroeconomics, international business management and supply chain management. He has been a judge at the SCATA Supply Chain  Awards, the LOG ME and Airline Business Awards and is a regular speaker at industry events.

Dr Cedwyn took over as Director of Middlesex University Dubai in March 2015, since then the student numbers have increased by 40% and the University now offers 30 Undergraduate Programmes and 37 Postgraduate Programmes. Under his leadership, the University is one of the leading universities in the region and attracts one of the largest new student intakes. Student numbers are expected to cross 3,400 in September 2018 with 38% of these being students would have come from all over the world specifically to study at Middlesex University Dubai.

The students of the Accounting and Finance Department celebrated the success of the second edition of the Financial Modeling Club (FMC2.0) on 6 March 2024. Led by students, this year’s FMC 2.0 featured four upskilling workshops and two competitions. A total of fifty-five students secured the Foundations Certificate in Financial Modeling, offered by our academic partner, FMI. Special congratulations to Chirag Kherajani for earning the Financial Modeling Institute scholarship for Advanced Financial Modeling certification.
