Middlesex University Dubai invited various Law practitioners to participate in the newly launched Problem Based Learning Project programme which was organized to expose students to real life legal issues and simulate legal practice. Members of the mooting society participated as ‘law firms’ and were given the discretion to decide whether they wish to adopt a particular structure within their firms. On the other hand, practitioners acted as ‘clients’ by devising a fact scenario and question on which legal advice is sought. The law firm assigned teams among students who met with clients, discussing cases and asking questions. Based on these, teams drafted their advice and submitted them to practitioners for evaluation and feedback. Problem and scenarios dealt with included issues on jurisdiction; corporate financing; post termination restraint clauses and cross-jurisdictional contract issues all of which were based on English law and facts scenario with an international concept. ‘clients’ that participated included lawyers from: Emirates Flight Catering; Argentum Law; Wall Street UAE; and Clyde & Co.
