FLN: ‘How to Land Your First Job’

  • Wednesday, 31 January 2018

The Future Lawyers Network held its sixth session, entitled: “How to Land your First Job” on Wednesday, 31st January 2018. The session, hosted at Microsoft Gulf Offices in Internet City, started with a tour of Microsoft Offices and was followed by a panel discussion focusing on preparing law students for the job market. Our impressive panel consisted of: Kevin Mottram, Senior University Recruitment Manager Middle East and Africa at Microsoft; Ahmed Elessawi, Government Affairs Coordinator at Microsoft; Ben Cockram, Head of I-House META at Taylor Root; Aaron Faith, Director In-House Middle East and Emerging Markets at Marsden International; and Bridget Hougham, Senior Consultant, Private Practice Middle East at Marsden International. Our guests shared their own professional journeys with our students and provided an array of helpful do’s and dont’s on how to build a profile attractive to employers, especially using social media to improve visibility, networking coverage and increased chances of getting an interview. They stressed the need for students to utilise every possible opportunity to network and meet key industry people to build relationships that are instrumental in improving employability prospects.
