On the 24 April 2019, Dr Evangelos Moustakas presented at the e-Participation event organised by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in collaboration with INTERMID. The presentation titled: 'Optimising e-Participation initiatives through social listening' outlined the growth of social media and identified ways to improve engagement and interactivity between customers and brands, as well as participation of citizens to Governmental initiatives. Innovative methodological social media monitoring tools and approaches were also discussed. Social media monitoring tools provide functionality for listening, tracking, and gathering relevant content across wide ranges of social media. Valuable data is gathered which can be used by social media agencies, marketing and communications teams and Governmental bodies to identify trends, track competitors, understand customer sentiment and engage in a continues dialogue with citizens around the world.
The TRA, as an enabler for smart government transformation, intends to spread awareness among Government entities of the global trends in e-participaiton, and the outstanding success stories with specialised recommendations that take into account the UAE’s reality.
The UAE looks at e-participation as a key topic in its advancement towards the age of smart cities. In order for the Government to achieve its digital transformation objectives, it needs the power and intelligence of masses. The UAE leaders have been keen on interacting with the public through social media and other channels to get ideas, comments, complaints and feedback in general. Government entities strive to engage their clients and the public as a whole.
