Middlesex University Dubai Concludes its Annual Summer Research Boot Camp

  • Wednesday, 17 July 2019

Last week, Middlesex University Dubai successfully concluded its “Annual Summer Research Boot Camp” for staff and faculty of the University.  The five week boot camp organised by the Research Committee was well attended by more than 50 academic and non-academic staff from multi-disciplinary backgrounds, and received excellent feedback from the participants. Building upon the success of its earlier editions, this year’s boot camp featured 22 facilitated sessions on both academic and applied research

Following a ‘goal-setting’ session for staff to achieve their research goals over the summer, the boot camp featured several focused and hand-on sessions on qualitative and quantitative research methods, secondary research, applied and evaluative research, and conceptual research. Also, a special ‘Quality Café’ session on sharing best practices for supervising student research was held.

Also new this year, the research boot camp featured seven specialised sessions on SPSS and two sessions on AMOS covering basic to advanced statistical analysis. Several participants with no statistical/SPSS background benefited from these sessions, while others progressed to using more advanced analysis such as structural equation modeling.

Commenting on the success of the research boot camp, Dr Sreejith Balasubramanian, Chair of the Research Committee at the University said “all the sessions were well thought out and planned and will definitely strengthen our university-wide drive towards excellence in research”. Dr Cody Paris, Deputy Director of Academic Planning & Research at Middlesex University Dubai thanked all the session leaders and contributors, and the Research Committee for putting a great deal of effort into organising these sessions, and also thanked the Marketing and IT Departments for providing the necessary support for the boot camp.

Middlesex University Dubai has a rich history of fostering research among staff and students with its weekly Wednesday Research Seminar series, Annual and Biennial Research Conferences, Student Research Symposium, Postgraduate Research Boot Camp and many more. The University’s international faculty are some of the top researchers in their field.
