An Introduction to the Programme

The BA Business Management (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) programme aims to seamlessly integrate business and management theory with practice, emphasising practical learning, technological and analytical competencies, and global and cross-cultural awareness.

Through effective teaching and learning, practical projects, and collaborations with industry professionals, students will gain real-world experience, preparing them for successful careers.  With increasing competition and the need for innovation and entrepreneurship competencies, this programme provides students with knowledge of innovation management and entrepreneurship theory and applications and the skills to apply these innovation management and entrepreneurship tools and techniques across a range of situations, supporting organisations to innovate their systems, products, and services for the 21st century.

In Year 1 you will complete four compulsory modules to develop essential skills and knowledge for business including management, marketing, financial performance, and data and digital technologies.

PROGRAMME MODULES

The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding of the management of organisations in the international context. It will introduce management concepts, such as the business functions, organisational structure and work design approaches. In doing so, it will offer various managerial tools to assess the organisational environment and enhance performance. The module stresses the importance of effective organisational communication and teamwork. The course highlights the vital role of corporate social responsibility and ethics in conducting business. Students will develop the ability to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of various management theories and their application in the management of international organisations.

This module aims to provide students with an overview of key marketing concepts and apply them in a variety of organisations. The module will provide students with an initial introduction to the fundamentals of marketing and will provide a key foundation that is relevant across a variety of business courses. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the core role of marketing, including the value of the marketing mix in ensuring successful marketing strategies, as well as the significance of external and internal environment for marketing practice.

This module is designed to cultivate a foundational understanding of business data and the state of digital technologies. The module will equip students with the skills to effectively collect data, analyse, communicate, and interpret statistical information to address a wide range of business and management challenges. By introducing the integral role of digital technologies in modern and innovative business environments, the module seeks to provide insights into both the current state and the evolving landscape of technological advancements and its implications on business.

This module aims to develop the financial understanding and knowledge of students within business organisations to enable them to make effective decisions and to assess the cost, economic and financial implications of these decisions. It aims to provide an understanding of the fundamental roles of accounting and finance for business students as well as to provide an understanding of key economic principles that inform business thought and practice.

The module equips students with the skills to use analytics and visualisation tools to convert data to insights that can support strategic business decisions. Emphasising the significant impact of data-driven insights on operational and strategic initiatives, the curriculum will navigate through key analytics concepts, from data visualisation and predictive modelling to customer analytics and segmentation. Through a hands-on approach, the programme immerses students in the practicalities of management analytics, utilising advanced tools and techniques to extract and interpret data from various sources.

This module aims to introduce students to key concepts, principles, and methodologies associated with innovation, entrepreneurship & sustainability, essential for the success of new ventures and existing organisations.  Students will develop their ability to analyse business and sustainability issues, evaluate potential solutions, and understand how to implement effective solutions.  The module explores the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability across a range of industries and professions.  The module will enable students to incorporate innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability throughout their careers.

This module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of operations and supply chain management within a variety of organisations. It examines different aspects of operations and supply chain management relevant to the design, planning, control and improvement of business operations. Students will learn to evaluate, select and apply relevant operations management concepts, tools and techniques to solve problems, make informed decisions and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes.

This module aims to deepen students understanding of Customer Experience (CX) and enhance their practical skills in managing each stage of the customer journey, from awareness to post-purchase. It also explores the role of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) within CX to help students develop effective strategies for customer acquisition and retention.

This module aims to further develop and enhance the financial understanding and knowledge of students on the subject areas of financial accounting, management accounting and financial management within business organisations. It aims to provide a more in-depth understanding of the roles of accounting and finance for business students who do not need to develop specialist knowledge and to train students to apply their accounting and finance knowledge and skills into a range of different business situations.

The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding of the key areas of the workplace and to develop their skills and competence in resourcing and talent management practice. Students will become familiar with a wide range of HR policies and practices including sustainable employee resourcing, employee reward, employee relations, performance management and employee training and development. They will also develop competencies in areas such as selection interviews, performance appraisals, managing conflict, and conducting grievance and disciplinary interviews, designing training courses and wellbeing programmes.

This module aims to provide students with an overview of marketing and digital strategy from a theoretical and practical perspective. The practice of digital marketing in today's marketing landscape will be outlined in addition to how digital marketing plays a vital integrative role in an organisation’s marketing strategy. However, the importance of more traditional channels will also be highlighted, and how these combine in an overall marketing strategy. Students will gain practical digital marketing skills such as website design and creation and SEO analysis.

This module aims to develops an understanding of key principles of economics. This module is made up of two parts- the first part introduces principles of microeconomics, and the second covers macroeconomics, which focuses on the aggregate economy. The principles of microeconomics prepare students to think like an economist and demonstrate how the principles can be applied to real-life situations. Through macroeconomics students will introduce to concepts such as GDP, savings, investments, inflation, unemployment, balance of payments and exchange rates as well as macroeconomic policies.

This module aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for navigating the complexities of procurement and logistics in contemporary business environments. Starting with procurement fundamentals, this module advances into areas such as strategic sourcing, procurement planning and costing, and further explores specialised topics like contract negotiation, risk management, and category management. It also offers students a comprehensive understanding of global logistics strategies, exploring the intricacies of forward and reverse logistics, the various transportation modes, and the critical role of warehousing, packaging, and distribution management in enhancing business performance. Further, the module emphasises responsible sourcing, stressing the necessity for ethical and sustainability practices in procurement and contract logistics.

This module aims to help students learn decision-making skills by evaluating options, weighing risks and rewards, and making informed choices in a dynamic and competitive business setting by fostering a comprehensive understanding of strategic management theory in changing operational contexts.  The module further aims to develop their ability to communicate business strategy and firm performance to key stakeholders via the application of cross-functional knowledge and evaluation of market trends, competitor behaviour and internal resources and capabilities to identify potential competitive advantage.

This module aims to engage students with the multifaceted aspects of the work environment through the lens of psychological theories and principles. Central to the module is a focus on the interplay of emotions, attitudes, and behaviours in driving individual, team, and organisational performance. The module discusses leadership theories and their practical execution, equipping students with the insights to effectively lead, influence and inspire individuals and teams.

This module aims to enable students to create and implement strategies for organisational innovation across a range of approaches including products/services, business models, internal operations, external value networks, etc.  Students will learn about the fundamental principles of innovation and design thinking, and how these can be incorporated into business strategy and tactics. Using theoretical frameworks and practical applications, the course will prepare them to deliver value through innovation strategies, cultivation of innovative teams, and effective co-creation with stakeholders.

This module aims to immerse students in the multifaceted landscape of launching a new venture. It will enable them to gain knowledge and develop skills relevant to conceptualising start-up commercial activities. Through practice-led learning, students will craft a business plan enriched by industry-led insights and experiential pedagogies, fostering hands-on application of concepts beyond traditional classroom settings. Sustainable Development Goals will underscore the curriculum, emphasising ethical and socially responsible business practices essential for sustainable growth.

This module aims to provide students with practical experience in applying business concepts, theories, and skills to real-world business contexts. Students will work individually on a project to identify, analyse, and propose solutions to a specific business problem. Through hands-on experience, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills essential for success in business management.

The primary aim is to enable students to undertake and reflect on approved work experiences and a range of personal and professional development activities, for a period equivalent to a minimum of 30 days full time employment. This will provide students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of work and develop effective strategies to deal with and understand work and organisational life. The module will enable them to develop their ability to articulate their graduate competencies and demonstrate their commercial awareness.

This module aims to offer students the opportunity to engage in a real, client-driven consultancy project. Students will respond to a project brief provided by external clients, developing practical solutions. The module enables students to apply theoretical knowledge to actual organisational challenges while enhancing skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication. Additionally, it provides insights into the complexities of client management and project delivery.

TEACHING

WORLD-CLASS FACULTY WITH A WEALTH OF INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE.

Classes are held at Dubai Knowledge Park campus Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5:30pm. No classes are scheduled on Fridays between 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Occasional sessions may be scheduled over weekends or holiday periods, and you can expect plenty of notice for these. Attending scheduled weekly classes is an important requirement for completion of the programme.

Students will be involved in a range of learning, teaching, and assessment approaches. Such approaches aim to put students at the centre of their own learning so that they are engaged and involved in all aspects. The programme requires active involvement and collaboration with fellow students, including working and learning as part of small groups. Learning activities may occur both within and outside the classroom.

Students will be supported by technology, and faculty will use existing and emerging tech to engage with students. The programme may be facilitated using a variety of online tools (My Learning on UniHub, podcasts, wikis, etc.). By engaging with e-learning, students will be developing additional skills highly valued by employers. These include working flexibly, communication, understanding of IT, and team working.
