Middlesex University Dubai’s Institute of Sustainable Development will be running its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Masterclass on 15 November 2018. The session has been arranged in accordance with the Year of Zayed and the University’s own CSR ethos.
Corporate Social Responsibility contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders. The challenge is to find a balance between making a positive impact and leverage these practices to benefit both businesses and the wider community.
This complimentary, one-day CSR masterclass will combine a mix of theory, tools, principles and case studies that allow for active learning to be incorporated into practice. It is designed for organisations, professionals, individuals and students interested in deepening their understanding of CSR. The session will be delivered by Nicole Malick, visiting lecturer at Middlesex University Dubai, and Dr Belisa Marochi, Senior Lecturer in International Relations and Head of the Institute of Sustainable Development.
Objectives of the Masterclass:
- Develop an academic understanding of concepts on sustainability and global governance
- Explore the concepts, principles and strategy development of CSR
- Mainstream CSR strategies within organisations
- Assess ethics and trends both locally and internationally
- Develop a map for stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills
- Evaluate reporting and communication standards

Nicole Malick is a Visiting Lecturer at Middlesex University Dubai and an international social worker recognised for her ability to effectively design and lead programmes that address corporate sustainability, gender equality, peace building and human trafficking. Nicole’s fourteen years of international experience spans the Middle East, Asia, East Africa, within governmental, civil society organisations and multi-national companies, and most notably as a US diplomat and with Her Royal Highness Princess Basma’s youth centres. She has sat on numerous boards focused on sustainability, women’s empowerment and public health. She is also a recipient of two US Agency for International Development Meritorious Honors Awards, a US Department of State Meritorious Group Award, and received a service medal from NATO for her work in Afghanistan. She was nominated as an official Mentor for the National Network for Social Work Management for her commitment to international social work.
Dr Belisa Marochi is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations and the Head of the Institute for Sustainable Development at Middlesex University Dubai. After completing her BA in Global Studies with a Middle East emphasis at the University of California in Santa Barbara and a MA in Political Science from the University of North Carolina, she received her PhD in Social Sciences from Roskilde University (Denmark) and the University of Birmingham (UK). Dr Belisa is the co-lead of the academic work stream for the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) under the UN Global Compact Local Network UAE and has also contributed to UAE policymaking in sustainable development. Her research focuses on sustainability and collaborative governance.
