Middlesex University Dubai’s Centre for Academic Success (CAS) is pleased to invite you to a special event ‘Fostering Inclusivity Champions in Higher Education’. Please nominate a small number of students (2-3) accompanied by staff, who you feel might be willing to become champions of inclusion in your university.

Venue: Room 007, Block 17, Middlesex University Dubai
The event, which aims to promote inclusivity throughout UAE educational institutions, will welcome Sean Pavitt (Director of Inclusive Education Programmes, KHDA), Siobhan McNiff (Learning Support Counselor, Middlesex University Dubai), and Dr Jigar Jogia (Associate Professor of Psychology, Zayed University). The objectives of the conference are to:
- Provide students with a valuable insight into the challenges faced by students of determination
- Enable students to understand how they can cope with difference
- Provide an understanding of universities’ aspirations to remove the barriers to inclusivity in HE
- Encourage the students and staff from universities who attend to become inclusion champions within their respective institutions
Sean has been instrumental in developing Dubai’s inclusive education strategy. He has worked in the special education sector for 25 years, and has been immersed in the lives of persons of determination for his entire life. After becoming one of the youngest principals in the UK, he went on to lead 3 special schools. He has led on inclusive reform at local authority level and has facilitated a number of national leadership development programmes. At present, he is leading the movement towards inclusive education all across the UAE.
Siobhan is a dyslexia practitioner and an expert study skills tutor with a clear understanding of university level writing skills and disability support. She is also an enthusiastic staff trainer in areas of disability awareness, including legal compliance. Siobhan negotiates and implements individual learning plans to enable students to demonstrate their learning potential.
Dr Jigar Jogia
Jigar is a Chartered Psychologist specialising in neuropsychology and mental health (including Bipolar and Major Depressive Disorder). He has delivered several workshops to industry experts (on positive psychology and productivity), student groups including the Harvard Colleges in Asia programme (on positive psychology and stress management) and counseling and guiding SEN students (counselors from the MENA region).
