Welcome to the 2025 International Higher Education Teaching and Learning (HETL) Association Conference

The International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association Conference is an annual gathering of professionals and thought leaders from around the world to dialogue, network, and collaborate on issues relevant to teaching and learning in higher education. The vision of the conference is to generate new knowledge and to advance the scholarship and practice of teaching and learning in this sector of education.

Presentations within the following sub-themes are invited for presentation at the conference.

Transformative Leadership in Global Higher Education

Technology-Enhanced Learning: Opportunities and Challenges

  • The impact of AI, big data, and emerging technologies on teaching and learning

Sustainability and Ethics in Higher Education

  • Universities as drivers of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  
  • Integrating sustainability into curricula and research  
  • Partnerships, social enterprises, and community engagement for social impact    

Future Skills and Employability in the Knowledge Economy

  • Competency-based education and the role of industry partnerships in an evolving job market  
  • Fostering lifelong learning in academic programmes    
  • The role of micro-credentials and alternative qualifications    

Guidelines and instructions

Abstracts may be submitted under the following presentation types:

  • Oral Paper Presentation - 20 minutes (incl. Q&A)
  • Poster Presentation  

Proposals for presentation of papers at the HETL 2025 conference must adhere to the following guidelines:  

  1. be in the form of a 250-300 word unstructured abstract (i.e., continuous text)  
  2. include a clear presentation title  
  3. include author(s) details and indicate presenter(s) of the paper with corresponding author highlighted  
  4. identify the sub-theme under which the abstract will be submitted  

Abstracts must be submitted online. Abstract proposals will be considered on a continual basis.  A detailed programme will be announced once it has been finalised. Only abstracts of delegates who paid the conference fee in full will be included in the programme.

  • Proposals for 60-minute workshops are also invited.  

Submit a proposal containing the workshop description, organiser contact details and bios. The 500-word proposal must include: workshop title; brief description of workshop content, and expected outcomes, specifying its appeal to HETL audiences.

Please submit your abstract via EasyChair link: 

  • Register as a user on the website.
  • After registration, submit and manage your abstract from the menu option.
  • Once an abstract is submitted for approval, you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging your abstract submission.
  • After you submitted an abstract, it will be reviewed, and feedback will be sent to you via email.
  • conference registration and accommodation bookings will be available on the website at a later date and after submitted abstracts have been accepted and approved.

The following actions are due at the latest by the dates listed:

  • Abstract submission deadline: 1st June 2025
  • Early bird registration and payment deadlines: 15th August 2025
  • Regular registration and payment deadlines: 15 October 2025

The following conference registration fee structure is applicable: 

Early Bird Registration (In-Person) for University Faculty and Staff 

AED 1,250 

Normal Registration (In-Person) for University Faculty and Staff 

AED 1,500 

Registration (In-Person) for Students 

AED 750 

Late/Onsite Registration (In-Person) 

AED 1,750 

Early Bird Registration (Virtual) for University Faculty and Staff 

AED 625 

Normal Registration (Virtual) for University Faculty and Staff

*Virtual participants will have the opportunity to present in online tracks


The registration fee includes:

  • Registration
  • Conference material
  • Refreshments and lunch during the day(s) of attendance
  • Organised functions and social events

 The registration fee excludes:

  • All travelling costs
  • Accommodation
  • Any other refreshments not included on the programme

No refunds are permitted, but you are welcome to send a substitute at no extra cost.  

An official invoice will be emailed to you as confirmation of your successful registration. 

All costs (travel, accommodation, subsistence) related to your participation in the conference must be covered by the participant, regardless of the proposal acceptance.  HETL 2025 or the hosts are not liable and hold no responsibility for any of these costs.

All delegates can have an exclusive accommodation rate at Media One Hotel, which located less than 10 minutes by car from Middlesex University Dubai at Dubai Knowledge Park campus.

Call for Papers

The aim of the special issue will be to share research on how higher education institutions can work in collaborative ways to transform teaching, learning, research, and service, with compassion as an overarching approach to accomplish this aim. The focus of the special conference issue will cover the following conference themes: inclusivity, interdisciplinarity, internationalization, and sustainability.

  • Any accepted presenter (oral or poster) is eligible to submit a full paper.
  • All papers submitted to this special issue will go through a rigorous double-blind review process.
