Kris Fade Launches Middlesex University Dubai's MDXplorer On the Road to Success

On 9 October 2023, Middlesex University Dubai unveiled the groundbreaking MDXplorer: a mobile, interactive resource centre revolutionising the way school students receive information about their future university options.
The distinctive red double-decker bus, which pays homage to Middlesex University's London campus, promises to remodel how high school students engage with higher education and the critical decisions they make about their careers at a young age.
The MDXplorer's unique concept deserved a grand launch, and it received just that. Virgin Radio presenter and Netflix star Kris Fade visited Middlesex University Dubai's campus to experience the MDXplorer firsthand.
After speaking with our students and offering his own wisdom regarding making smart decisions for their future, he took a tour of the campus including through the newly opened Study District and Admissions Office, and the impressive ICON Studio Fashion Lab, before stopping to watch a quick trailer in the MDX Studios cinema, powered by Dolby Atmos sound system.
After heading outside to the front of the Dubai Knowledge Village Campus, Kris cut the ribbon alongside Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai Professor Cedwyn Fernandes to inaugurate the MDXplorer and officially begin its tour of Dubai and beyond.
He enthusiastically explored all the floors, including a playful dive into the ball pit, and even left his signature of approval on the bus.
The campus launch was followed by the first-ever MDXplorer school experience at GEMS Our Own English High School for Girls, where Kris Fade introduced the bus to 500 excited school students eager to get their ticket onboard. After many games and a trivia quiz focused on Middlesex University Dubai’s quality UK degrees, 15 lucky students were awarded a pair of Apple AirPods and were able to jump onboard for the first ever MDXplorer experience.
The MDXplorer features two exciting decks:
- Discovery Deck: On the upper floor, students can engage in activities and challenges related to programmes offered at Middlesex University Dubai. From learning about sustainability initiatives to testing their business acumen with a 'Write a Pitch' challenge, students can also explore their personality types and have a spin at the ‘Wheel of Fortune’. A ball pit at the back is stuffed full of fantastic merchandise from Middlesex University Dubai that students can win.
- Explore Floor: After completing the challenges upstairs, students descend to the Explore Floor. Here, they can take on virtual adventures using VR headsets, design their own logos, and step into the shoes of a newscaster in the MDX newsroom. Each student gets a photo opportunity to commemorate the day they discovered their dream university.
As the MDXplorer embarks on its journey around Dubai and beyond, it will make appearances at schools and education shows.
Since the launch, the MDXplorer has visited several schools and over 750 students, including St Mary's High School, Crescent English High School, Uptown International School, Springdales School Dubai, GEMS Founders Al Mizhar, and Al Diyafa High School. Hundreds of enthusiastic and intelligent students engaged in workshops, played games, and learned about the advantages of pursuing degrees that align with their dream careers. Premium prizes were awarded, and the fun is just beginning.

“Some days are absolutely magic at school. Today was one of those days for our Grade 11 students.
We all got a chance to board the double-decker MDXplorer Bus from Middlesex University Dubai. While onboard, students were highly engaged in activities that allowed them to sample some of the topics that the university offers. We explored Design, Psychology, Marketing, Public Speaking, Virtual Reality, and Sustainability. Students got onto the bus completely unsure of what to expect, and came off the bus with information about degrees, insight about themselves, and most importantly, with huge smiles!”
