Course overview

This professional development training course is delivered by Middlesex University’s Social Research Psychology Lab (SPRL). The course explores relevant topics pertaining to teaching and supporting students of determination.

The course has been designed to aid those working or studying in the Special Educational Needs (SEN) field. It will help attendees to understand how to communicate and support children of determination, especially in a mainstream classroom, within the context of the UAE. We discuss educational policies, atypical development, and learning styles and theories in the context of SEN.
The course is also in line with UAE’s vision for providing an environment with ‘acceptance, understanding, and inclusion’ for differently abled individuals. .

Key skills you will gain throughout the course include:

  • Identify atypical development based on case studies of students of determination within a mainstream school setting
  • Demonstrate understanding of UAE policies regarding Special Educational Needs (SEN) within the global context
  • Describe interventions using theoretical models of support
  • Develop skills and knowledge to support children with special needs in an educational setting

The training course includes simple but informative in-class formative assessments (quizzes and case studies) and a summative assessment (brief essay). Attendees will also receive feedback on the submissions for enhanced learning.
