Frugal Hedonism
About the Collection
I wanted to tackle the sustainability issue of overconsumption. The social issue of selfishness and hedonistic ideals has led to mass purchasing without consideration for the future in favour of momentary enjoyment. I aim to showcase a collection that evokes a sense of indulgence and a cost-effective lifestyle, proving that style and self-enjoyment should not cost our surroundings. Hence the collection name “Frugal hedonism”.
The garments are made from thrift and project scrap fabrics. Using discarded denim, ties and lace, I created statement pieces that can elevate any outfit and stand alone. Notably, the pants work as pockets to wear over a dress or pocketless pants, removing the need to buy more trousers. The hoodie and tie are deconstructed and reconstructed to emphasise further the collection aim of reconstructing the hedonistic identity and mindset to be more frugal and mindful.
