We are very proud to announce that six Middlesex University Dubai Fashion Design students have been named among the 10 finalists of Fashion Revolution UAE’s upcoming Sustainable Fashion Competition Digital Show!
Open to budding designers across the UAE, the show is being held virtually today on 22nd April 2021 as part of Fashion Revolution Week in the UAE, an annual programme that promotes sustainable and ethical fashion consumption and production through workshops and seminars.
The six Middlesex University Dubai students chosen to take part in the final are:
- Aysha Thelhath
- Janine D’Souza
- Nayana Chulliyot
- Sandhya Venkatesh
- Zainab Taher
- Eden D’Souza
During the show, our students will showcase 3 original ready-to-wear pieces that incorporate circular design strategies to a panel of industry judges, including Adela Alonso, founder of strategic branding and sustainable growth consultancy Alonso Alonso, and Araceli Gallego, founder of slow fashion e-commerce platform Goshopia. Members of the public are also able to attend and will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite designs.
The competition’s ten finalists are competing to win one of three exclusive prizes, which are focused on providing career development opportunities through industry-led mentorship and education. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the Alliance Francaise of Dubai on 25th April 2021.
Commenting on our students’ success, Vaishali Raj, Head of Programme and Senior Lecturer, Fashion Design said: “This show is a fantastic opportunity for our fashion students to showcase their work to some of the best-known names making an impact on the UAE fashion scene, and their success in getting to the final is a testimony to their talent and creativity. It offers an invaluable chance for them to complement their university learning by growing their professional networks and gaining first-hand insight into how the fashion industry is adapting to pressing global challenges by becoming more sustainable and ethical.”
