Middlesex University Dubai A&F Students Win CFA Institute Research Challenge, Local Finals

  • Monday, 18 March 2024

A&F students from Middlesex University, Dubai, have once again won the local CFA Research Challenge 2023–24. The final year BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance students Jiten Harwani, Mahek Kherajani, Yusuf Hussain, Aakriti Gupta, and Syeda Farvah Zaidi represented our team.

This prestigious event was organised by CFA Society Emirates in association with Abu Dhabi Global Markets (ADGM). A total of seven teams participated, including the American University of Dubai (AUD), the University of Wollongong, the University of Birmingham, and Heriot-Watt University. The competition required students to provide their investment recommendations for AD Ports, the flagship port operator in Abu Dhabi. The students presented their equity research findings based on an in-depth analysis of the industry, financials, ESG, investment risks, and valuation.

Our students impressed the judges, the competition organisers (all CFA charter holders), faculty mentors, and students from other universities by winning the competition. The students won a full scholarship sponsored by Morgan International and PWC Academy to pursue a CFA Level 1 course.

Huge congratulations to our brilliant students and the tireless and supportive faculty mentor, Rashita Puthiya, and industry mentor, Mr. Ali Wadood, for their valuable guidance over the past four months. Under the direction of Dr. Pallavi Kishore and with assistance from the A&F Faculty Team, the Accounting & Finance (A&F) Department actively guided students in their pursuit of success in extracurricular and career development activities in addition to their academic degrees. Over the past six years, A&F students have won in several inter-university competitions, won the prestigious local CFA Research Challenge four times (2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024), and placed first runner-up in 2019 and 2023.

The Middlesex University Dubai team will now represent CFA Society Emirates at the EMEA sub- regional finals in March 2024.
