- Saturday, 17 May 2025
At the prestigious World Police Summit 2025, Dubai Police and Middlesex University Dubai solidified their ongoing collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement was signed by Major General Ahmad Thani Bin Ghalita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police, and Professor Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Middlesex University and Director, Middlesex University Dubai.
This MoU builds on a successful three-year partnership between the two institutions. Notably, the Insights Lab, led by Dr Krishnadas Nanath, has been instrumental in joint research initiatives with Dubai Police, focusing on forensic science, criminology, and AI-driven tools for investigative purposes. In the past year, nine MSc Data Science and MSc Cybersecurity students completed their thesis projects in collaboration with Dubai Police, contributing to advancements in forensic analytics and security.
Beyond research, Dubai Police professionals have enhanced the curriculum at Middlesex University Dubai, actively teaching as adjunct faculty in the School of Computer Engineering and Informatics. Their involvement brings real-world insights into policing, security, and forensic science, benefiting both students and faculty.
The new MoU not only strengthens existing ties but also paves the way for expanded collaborative research, co-development of academic programmes, and joint events. It will also explore next-generation technologies in policing and forensic science, reinforcing Middlesex University Dubai’s commitment to applied AI for public safety and its alignment with the UAE's vision for smart governance.
