Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai Innovation Hub (MIH) has placed second at the Asia-Pacific Triple E Awards in the ‘Innovation and Collaboration Space of the Year’ category.

The awards, which formed part of the Accreditation for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) forum 2024, were presented in Kuala Lumpur on 3 September 2024.

The ceremony brought together around 150 front-runners in entrepreneurship and engagement from the Asia-Pacific region for a three-day forum of learning, networking and celebrating collective achievements.

MIH was recognised for its exemplary work in bridging the gap between academia and industry, placing great emphasis on students’ education and skills development and nurturing them to showcase their work at external innovation competitions and conferences.

The Hub, which was launched in 2023, has already given more than 200 students opportunities in cutting-edge fields such as machine learning, AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and more.

MIH was officially inaugurated in March 2024 by His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), who said: “The Middlesex Innovation Centre is poised to enrich research and innovation landscapes in Dubai and the UAE.

“In preparation for an era marked by transformative changes across various sectors, it is essential to empower students with the latest advancements and inspire innovative thinking.”

ACEEU acknowledged MIH's commitment goes beyond the university premises, connecting students with external workshops, incubators, entrepreneurial ventures, and mentorship programmes. These engagements resulted in the Hub quickly becoming a nexus of entrepreneurship for students and alumni of the University.

The Hub provides students with the resources, guidance and opportunities to flourish as entrepreneurs. Through support programmes, 1:1 mentoring, start-up workshops, experimental testing, all with industry grade software; the Hub is the flag ship of MDX Dubai’s commitment to innovation.

Professor Fehmida Hussain, Founder and Head of MIH, said“We are so pleased that our work to provide a dedicated space for students to collaborate, inspire and innovate has been recognised by ACEEU.

“We are steadfast in our commitment to align with the visionary goals of the UAE in advancing innovation and technological progress. Our aim is to cultivate a community where creativity thrives, and breakthroughs are born, shaping a brighter future for many more generations.”
