Launch of MDX LENS Creates Collaboration and Leadership Opportunities Across Eight Student Societies
- Tuesday, 10 December 2024
Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai officially launched MDX Leadership and Engagement Network for Students (LENS) on 18 November 2024, an initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration, leadership development, and student engagement across the university.
MDX LENS brings together eight student-led bodies across various domains, each contributing to the overall experience of students at MDX Dubai. This initiative is designed to streamline communication and co-ordination, create a unified approach to student engagement, and support diversity and inclusivity throughout the campus.
The Student Council (SC) serves as the voice of the student body, representing student interests and ensuring regular communication with university management and faculty. The Council organises events aimed at personal growth, career development, and networking, while also addressing student concerns and proposing improvements.
The Computing Society is a dynamic community for tech enthusiasts, dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for students interested in areas such as programming, robotics, cybersecurity, and more. Members gain hands-on experience, participate in hackathons, workshops, and stay updated on the latest industry trends, while also building valuable networks.
The Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) Student Body empowers students to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life. With a focus on innovation and leadership, MIH provides resources and guidance to students looking to launch their own businesses, social enterprises, or community initiatives. It serves as a platform for students to turn concepts into prototypes and gain real-world experience in a collaborative environment.
The Google Developer Group (GDG) connects students and tech enthusiasts to explore cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, machine learning, and blockchain. GDG organises coding workshops, tech talks, and hackathons, offering members the opportunity to collaborate on real-world projects and expand their tech skills.
The Student Research Society aims to cultivate a research-oriented environment where students can share ideas and support each other in their academic endeavours. It hosts panel discussions, workshops, and provides guidance for students pursuing research projects, contests, and skills development, helping them enhance their research capabilities.
The Student Inclusivity Champions (SIC) work to promote inclusivity on campus, creating an atmosphere where all students can participate equally in university life. By supporting inclusivity events and initiatives, SIC strives to ensure that every student feels valued and empowered to reach their potential at MDX Dubai.
Red Beat Magazine offers a creative platform for students to express ideas and engage in diverse forms of storytelling. Covering topics from arts and fashion to social issues, the magazine encourages students to collaborate on projects that challenge traditional journalistic practices, while honing skills in writing, editing, design, and video production.
The Business Students Association (BSA) is dedicated to enriching the academic and professional journey of business students at MDX Dubai. By organising events, workshops, and industry visits, BSA provides students with practical insights into the business world, while fostering leadership, creativity, and collaboration.
Deputy Director Engagement and Student Experience, Head of Computer Engineering and Informatics and Head and Founder of the MDX Innovation Hub, Professor Fehmida Hussain, said: “MDX LENS not only aims to enhance the student experience by providing a collaborative network for student organisations but also supports leadership development and inclusivity. The initiative encourages participation, fosters diverse learning opportunities, and ensures that student voices are heard across the university.
“With the collective strength of these societies, MDX LENS offers students a unique platform to expand their skills, engage with the university community, and make a positive impact on campus life.”
Students interested in joining any of the societies can find more information on the MDX LENS page.
