On February 19, 2024, Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) proudly hosted the MDX Dubai Tabtakir 2024 event in alignment with UAE Innovates, one of the world’s largest innovation festivals. The event, held at the Dubai Knowledge Park Campus Study District, was a vibrant celebration of the pioneering spirit that drives the UAE’s Vision of Innovation.
Under the guidance of Professor Fehmida Hussain, Founder and Head of MIH and Head of the Computer Engineering and Informatics department, and the creative direction of Engie Bashir, Founding Member of MIH and Campus Programme Coordinator for Undergraduate Computer Engineering and Informatics programmes, the event underscored Middlesex University Dubai’s commitment to fostering an ecosystem of innovation and creativity.
Professor Fehmida Hussain said: “The Tabtakir 2024 event underscored Middlesex University Dubai and the Middlesex Innovation Hub’s dedication to nurturing and championing transformative ideas and initiatives among our students. We firmly embrace the UAE Innovates concept, believing that with guidance, our youth hold the potential to make profound contributions to the progress of our nation and beyond.”
The name Tabtakir comes from the transition from ‘Ana Abtakir’ meaning ‘I innovate’ in Arabic, to ‘Nahnu Nabtakir’ meaning ‘we innovate’ which embodies the collective journey towards a future of groundbreaking achievements.
Engie Bashir said: “The vision of this event truly came to life on 19 February. Witnessing the diverse contributions of our talented and dedicated students filled me with immense pride, and I aspire for this event to become an annual fixture on our calendar, serving as a source of inspiration for our MIH community. In the coming months, the MIH will continue to thrive and expand, enabling us to nurture even more innovative and pioneering projects from our students.”
The MDX Dubai Tabtakir 2024 event shone a spotlight on the creativity of CEI students, with an opening address from Professor Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai. The event showcased thirteen innovative projects by CEI students, transforming theoretical concepts into tangible prototypes under the mentorship of esteemed supervisors Dr Judhi Prasetyo and Dr Sumitra Kotipalli.
Special recognition was given to Muhammad Siraj Bilal and Muhammad Arsal Anwar for their exceptional contributions.
A key highlight of the event was the introduction of the Dubai Future Foundation's University Entrepreneurship Programme, led by Jaspreet Singh and Dr Vijaya Kumar, aimed at nurturing the entrepreneurial skills of our students. This initiative, alongside the TIE University Programme, led by Rhoderick Romano, represents a significant step towards equipping our students with the tools and mindset needed for success in the innovation-driven landscape.
Together, we are not only envisioning the future but actively creating it, laying the groundwork for a world where innovation and creativity lead the way.
