Vis Moot Training Underway for Law Students Ahead of Competition

  • Tuesday, 5 November 2024

Ahead of the prestigious Vis Moot competition in spring next year, law students from Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai recently took part in an intensive training programme aimed at enhancing their skills in international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution.

The event was led by the U.S. Commercial Law Development Programme (CLDP) in collaboration with the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC).

Spanning four days, the comprehensive training provided students with critical insights into the complexities of the Vis Moot problem, engaging them in an in-depth analysis of pertinent factual and legal issues.

Participants explored both procedural and substantive laws relevant to international arbitration, ensuring they built a solid legal foundation ahead of the competition.

A highlight of the programme was the oral advocacy “Hot Seat” exercise, where students presented their arguments before a panel of seasoned arbitrators. This interactive session allowed students to receive constructive feedback, honing their public speaking and legal reasoning skills.

This exercise is designed to not only equip students with the necessary tools to excel in the competition but also boost their confidence and professionalism, essential attributes for successful careers in arbitration.

The Vis Moot competition, officially known as the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, is a prestigious annual event focused on international commercial arbitration. Established in 1994, it attracts law students from around the world who compete in simulated arbitration proceedings.

The Vis Moot is widely regarded as a significant event in the legal academic calendar, helping students develop crucial advocacy skills and a deeper understanding of international commercial law.

Participation in Vis Moot is just another example of how MDX Dubai provide its students with real-world experiences and practical training.

On Saturday, 9 November 2024, MDX Dubai are hosting UNCITRAL Day For Arab States for engaging discussions on the future of international arbitration. Join us.
