How was your university experience with MDX?
My university experience was one that I absolutely loved and was the perfect blend of academic learning, cultural exposure, personal growth, and opportunities to excel in sports. The campus is a vibrant hub of diversity, bringing together students from all over the world, which not only broadened my perspective but also taught me how to navigate and thrive in multicultural environments. On the academic front, the programmes were challenging but rewarding. This hands-on approach prepared me well for the encounters I would later face in the corporate world. Outside the classroom, the university offered numerous opportunities to get involved, whether through clubs, events, or networking opportunities. These experiences allowed me to develop essential skills like leadership, communication, and teamwork.
Do you have any specific memories that highlight your experience?
Getting featured in the university handbook as a result of becoming the Athletics Team Player of the Year and being one of the few students that graduated with a distinction from the inaugural batch of my postgraduate programme. These successes in academics and sports and making a mark in them is a real highlight of my time there.
What was your dream career when you went to university? And did that change in the process of your studies?
My dream career has always been to have my own venture in the field of eSports, or something in fitness. I took up both UG and PG programmes to learn everything about kickstarting my own business and give myself a head start in this space. What the modules of the programmes taught me entailed building resilience, taking calculated risks, developing financial acumen, being creative, innovative and statistical. It also gave me expertise in marketing and selling your brand successfully.
What do you do for a career now and how did you get there?
I took the leap of transitioning into my “mini business” of being a property consultant with Redjemi Properties, with my core focus here being to assist clients in buying and selling multi-million-dirham properties across all corners of Dubai. Prior to these two roles, I was successful in landing 3 internships - all of which were through the university’s top-tier Careers and Employability Services (CES) team, that had shared my profile with the respective recruitment teams. The core foundation of my success in the corporate world is down to these internships that helped me gain and develop essential skills required to be ahead of the pack in this competitive day and age.
How has your degree helped you in your current role and how do you see it helping your progression in the future?
Being in the area of selling properties currently, both my programmes, which were entrepreneurial-focused, have helped me significantly in becoming successful in dealing with clients of various backgrounds and requirements. The key takeaways being, it helped me build a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication - skills that are essential in a fast-paced industry and region. Looking ahead, my degree has also laid the groundwork for future growth- providing insights and connections that I can leverage as I progress in my career.
Do you have a message for current students and graduating students?
Socialise, network, make friends, be organised and deadline-driven in assignments. Seek advice from your seniors, build a rapport with your lecturers, and other faculty. Participate in academic events and sports activities and utilise the university’s first-class resources in successfully landing employment, but most importantly - have fun doing it all.
