Pathway Modules

This module aims to provide the key developments in, and thinking derived from, the study of strategy. This is increasingly informed by the study of innovation due to the involvement in enabling competitive advantage.

This module will give you the knowledge, skills and theoretical understanding in a number of strategic aspects of financial management and economics. You will understand how they affect commercial organisations and also examine the interrelationships between key factors in the economic environment. You will evaluate the impact of shifts and changes in these factors on organisational decision-making and performance.

This module aims to raise awareness in the key areas relevant to effective people management and development. You will explore how these relate to the achievement of business and organisational goals and strategies.

Marketing management involves satisfying customer needs and desires. In a globally competitive marketplace, the challenge is to select which markets to compete in, to make an integrated set of decisions about product and service design, pricing as well as distribution channels. You must also make considerations to advertising, branding, and promotions.

This year-long module aims to support you in demonstrating significant growth in your career aspirations as a result of working towards the MBA qualification and how you intend to sustain this growth throughout your professional life. The primary objective of this course is for you to identify your own individual strengths and areas for development in terms of your leadership capabilities and wider professional effectiveness.

This module allows you to further develop and integrate the skills and knowledge acquired during the course by working on a specific organisational issue or problem. You will be able to demonstrate proficiency in relation to scoping the issue(s)/problems, consideration of appropriate literature, collection and analysis of data, assessing the financial implications, including any cost/benefit analysis for justifying specific recommendations and consideration of implementation issues.

This module is field-based and is ideal if you want the opportunity to further integrate your learning from previous modules, working in groups to complete a live project based on a real organisational or sectoral theme. Most students will complete this as part of the International Field Trip. The project will culminate in a final consulting-type presentation outlining key recommendations.

Students choose any two modules from the following list provided that this does not lead to a named area of emphasis. Some combinations may not be feasible due to timetabling restrictions.

In this course students will advance their knowledge and skills acquired from the project management fundamentals module. Student will learn to apply industry standard best practices, tools and techniques in managing individual projects from initiation through to closing, and portfolio of projects. This includes applying decision tree analysis for project decisions, financial budgeting, hands-on experience in using Microsoft Project software for managing projects, financial and non-financial risk analysis. This module will also focus on the application of data analytics in project management to improve project outcomes. Finally, the course explores statistical quality control and assurance methods for project managers as well as the application of agile and lean methodologies.

This course introduces students to the principles and practices of project management. Students will gain an understanding of what project management encompasses and how it can be integrated into business strategy, structure, and management. The module will allow students to develop their understanding of the PMI project management process groups and associated knowledge areas including project initiation project planning, controlling and monitoring a project, as well as properly closing a project – all necessary for successful project execution. This module will set the foundation for the Applied Project Management module, and it is structured to assist students who wish to undertake the PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) certification exams.
