TRANSFORM 2024: Excitement and Discovery at MDX University Dubai

On Saturday 22 June 2024, Dubai Knowledge Park came alive with excitement, as Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai hosted TRANSFORM 2024, the biggest open day event of the year. 

Designed for all potential students across the UAE including high school students and those interested in postgraduate opportunities, the event provided dedicated guidance on securing university placements for September. 

The day was packed with exhilarating activities, activations, informative sessions and programme specific workshops, plus exciting giveaways. 

One thing that makes TRANSFORM stand out amongst the other open days in Dubai is the ability to get hands-on, with interactive taster sessions hosted by faculty. Workshops were run throughout the day, including fashion, film, psychology, business, design, law and MBA. Students were able to immerse themselves in these subjects, attending classes just as if they were current students. 

For example, students in the MBA taster session ‘Strategic Thinking or Communicating a Strategic Choice’ were able to take part in a participant-led discussion on different techniques that companies have used to compete in today's complex business environment. They learned about the importance of anticipating future trends, analysing competitive landscapes, and making informed decisions to achieve long-term goals. They then got their minds working through an activity called ‘Reverse Brainstorming’, where instead of finding solutions, they first explored all the ways to make a problem worse before then turning those ideas around to find the best actual solutions!

The workshop emphasised the role of tools and frameworks that can support creative thinking in problem-solving, and attendees gained some high-level practical insights into how to develop an effective strategy to achieve a given goal, as well as how to then communicate that strategy effectively to a business audience.

This is just a snippet of what students can expect on either the new MDX Daytime or Executive MBAs. The MBA (Daytime Delivery) is brand new for the September 2024 intake, and is designed for recent graduates pursuing managerial and leadership roles, equipping you with the tools and insights needed to navigate today's modern business landscapes and achieve your career aspirations.

Students in the fashion workshop, ‘Sketch to Style: Create Your Design’ were able to demonstrate the fundamentals of fashion drawing and discuss creative trends and inspirations. MDX Dubai recently announced their renowned BA Honours Fashion Design programme would become BA Honours Fashion for the September 2024 intake, with a higher focus on the technology involved within the modern design process.

Throughout the day, guests had the opportunity to speak with current students, who were able to learn about their journey at MDX and gain insights into campus life, academic experiences, and extracurricular activities. They were also able to sit down with key faculty and learn about various academic programmes, research opportunities, and career prospects.

During a campus tour, students explored various labs, study spaces, and social areas, giving them a taste of student life at MDX Dubai.  This included the MDX Studios, Robotics Lab, Social Hub with computer gaming, indoor games like snooker and table tennis, as well as the dance studio, music room, fashion studio, and more. In Block 15 and 16 lobby in the heart of the action, guests could take part in a VR experience, wearing the specialist headsets and exploring the world in virtual reality. They also had the opportunity to engage with Pepper, the resident robot from the MDX Robotics Lab! 

Adding a thrilling edge to the day, Red Bull was in attendance, welcoming potential students to jump into their immersive race-car simulator. 

TRANSFORM 2024 successfully provided prospective students with a vibrant and comprehensive introduction to university life at MDX University Dubai, leaving them confident and excited about their academic futures.
